Joseph Battaglia

Mr. Joseph Francis Battaglia, age 67 of Calhoun, GA died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Wilmington, DE on August 16, 1944, son of the late Joseph and Clara Boleslawski Battaglia. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Max Bleiler. Joe loved sports. He was involved in sports as a child and into his adult years. He was enthusiastic about seeing children thrive in all sports arenas and coached many teams through the years. Joe served two years in the United States Army before completing his higher education at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA. Aldon’s Industries brought Joe to Calhoun, GA where he ultimately became Vice President over IS (Information Systems) and the Order Division. His expertise in the field of IS eventually led him to Crown Crafts, Inc. where he was instrumental in many aspects – most importantly implementing the EDI system. Joe was very much involved in the community, including the Chamber of Commerce. He served as board President of the United Way – later becoming the Director. More recently, Joe served as Director of the George Chambers Resource Center. Joe was an amazing and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He loved his family with all his heart; he adored his grandchildren! He was proud of each of them, making them all feel special. He loved people – many would agree that having a simple conversation with Joe would brighten their day. Survivors include his wife, Linda Lemons Battaglia of the residence; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cheryl Bleiler of Atlanta, and Chris and Dee Dee Dyer of Adairsville, GA; five daughters, Denise Bleiler of Philadelphia, PA, Sharon Hubbard and her husband Dave of Albuquerque, NM, Kris Bleiler of Atlanta, Angie Caldwell and her husband Carman of Adairsville, and Kim Turley and her husband Comer of Ft. Myers, FL; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn and Joseph Conaway of Bridgefield, DE, and Marguerite and Steve Deery of Wilmington, DE. Grandchildren surviving are Chris Humphreys, Jack Hubbard, Jacob Bleiler, Camran Caldwell, Mathis Turley, Morgan Turley, Judson Turley, Conley Turley, Terrell Dyer, Christian Dyer, Cheyenne Dyer, and Wyatt Dyer. Nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Francis Battaglia will be held Friday, May 11th at 2:00pm from the Trinity Baptist Church, with Rev. Eddie Brannon and Rev. Ronnie McBrayer officiating. Music will be arranged by Rachel Harris and Ronnie McBrayer. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Clinton Poole, Jerry Lemons, Joseph Conaway, Kevin Smith, Camran Caldwell, Mathis Turley, Terrell Dyer, and Randy Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are J.T. Poole, Lamar Poole, Steve Deery, Adrian Lemons, Randy Lemons, and Joey Conaway. The Battaglia family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
