Marvin Burns

Rev. Marvin Lee Burns, age 67 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. He was born in Gordon County on March 10, 1945, son of the late James J. and Ruby Lee Franks Burns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Grady Burns, and a grandson, James William Burns, Jr. Prior to his illness, Marvin was self-employed in the construction industry. Survivors include five sons, Marvin Seritt and his wife Vicki of Shannon, James Burns and his wife Tonya of Adairsville, Jeff Burns of Adairsville, Jerry Burns and his wife BJ of Centre, AL, and Joel Burns and his wife Kristina of Dalton; a daughter, Julia Judd and her husband Mike of Adairsville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Lori Burns of Calhoun, and Jimmy and Celine Collie of Pensacola, FL; three sisters, Tammy Burns of Calhoun, Sherry Johnson of Chatsworth, and Katherine Jordan of Centre, AL; his fiancée, Ann Chapman; the mother of his children, Rhonda Hawkins of Adairsville; and a special cousin, Billy Patton. Thirty grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Funeral services for Rev. Marvin Lee Burns will be held Saturday, October 20th at 3:00pm from the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Whitfield County, with Rev. Jackie Culberson and Rev. Lamar Patton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will include David Burns, Daniel Ghorley, Cordell Seritt, Marvin Seritt, Jr., Seth Vineyard, and Chad Lau. Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Daniel, Landon Wells, Chris Seritt, Jerry Burns, Jr., Dakota Burns, Brett Burns, Bentley Brunni, and Chaz Smith. Rev. Burns’ body will lie in state and the family will receive friends Friday, after 1:00pm until the funeral hour on Saturday, at the home of Joey and Kristina Burns, 4658 Nance Springs Road, Resaca, GA.
